Investment Opportunities

The Ontario Food Cluster, by Bill Elliot, VP Business Development, CTT

Catharine GerhardSince 2009 CTT has been partnering with the Greater Toronto Marketing Alliance, Toronto Region Research Alliance, City of Guelph and University of Guelph to establish a platform for marketing this corridor as the North American centre for agri-food innovation, R&D, entrepreneurship and economic development. This partnership has expanded to include Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food and other Southern Ontario cities.

Results of commissioned studies indicate we are the 3rd largest Agri-Food Region in North America but little known outside of Canada. The sector employs 359 000 people, who are working to build a global reputation for food excellence. 78 000 employees work directly in agricultural production and food manufacturing and 281 000 in related sectors such as distribution, retail and food service. The sector is in growth mode with large potential for new products not only for local consumption, but also for global exports.

This year we will be taking the message of our skilled work force, innovation, research and cost competitive location to the world by participating in the following events:

Stayed tuned for further developments in this exciting sector.

The Walter Fedy Partnership will now be known as WalterFedy. WalterFedy will celebrate it's 60th year with a new brand, and a new office in downtown Kitchener.

Partnerships pay off in insights and connections - CTT Chair Ian MacNaughton welcomes Board members and our Corporate Partners at monthly invitational Chair’s Breakfast events. These breakfasts provide insights from industry experts and focused networking with a select group of local business leaders. Just one of the benefits of supporting CTT as a Corporate Partner! So far in 2011, we’ve heard the inside story on doing business in Hong Kong; learned from Herman Miller about workplace trends and workforce expectations around the world; and joined Sustainable Waterloo for an update on the impact of climate change.

On April 26th, Dr. Ingo Koenig will share his insights on business opportunities in alternative energy. Looking ahead, we’ll hear about the Brazil market, urban intensification and global logistics, among other topics.

If you are interested in finding out more about the value of partnering with CTT, please contact Kate Mowry, Events Coordinator at 519-747-2541 ext. 301 or kate@techtriangle.com.
