John Doherty

Chair

John Doherty is Managing Partner, Waterloo Region office of the national law firm, Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP (Gowlings). John received his law degree from Dalhousie University and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1984. John's practice focuses upon municipal and commercial litigation. Currently, John is actively involved in professional organizations, serving in a leadership role as a Director of the Ontario Expropriation Association where he served as President and continues to contribute to the Association's seminars. John is dedicated and committed to community service having served in many capacities, including: President, Cambridge Volunteer Bureau; Director, United Way of Cambridge and North Dumfries; Director for Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Inc.; Chair and Director of the Greater Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber of Commerce; Chair, 2003 and 2005 Prosperity Forum; and, Chair, 2003 Citizen's Advisory Committee on Regional Council Compensation. He currently serves as Chair of the Prosperity Council of Waterloo Region.

   

Ian MacNaughton

Vice-Chair

Ian MacNaughton, founding partner and President of MacNaughton, Hermsen, Britton, Clarkson Planning Limited, has practiced planning and resource management since 1968, and founded MHBC in 1973. He has a Masters Degree in Regional Planning and Resource Development from the University of Waterloo and an Honours Degree in Urban and Regional Planning also from the University of Waterloo. Ian’s experience covers a broad range of interests including land development of all types and scales, commercial planning and development, downtown revitalization and economic strategies. He has advised senior levels of government, local municipalities, and the private sector on issues relating to planning and resource management.

Ian served as a member of the Smart Growth Central Ontario Strategy Sub-Panel and as an Alternate on the Greenbelt Task Force. He is a member of Kitchener-Conestoga Rotary Club, a Past Chair (Member) of Pragma Council (University of Waterloo) which is a think tank of senior, private, academic and government individuals dealing with broad planning and economic trends. Ian is Past Chair of the Downtown Kitchener Revitalization Task Force, Past Board of Directors, Ontario Expropriation Association and Past Board of Directors (Member), Lambda Alpha International. Ian also serves as Director of Homewood Health Centre and Chair of its Governance Committee.

   

Frank Boutzis

Treasurer

Frank Boutzis is KPMG’s Regional Managing Partner for the Southwestern Ontario Region, located in the Waterloo office. He has over 27 years of experience working with a broad spectrum of private and public companies. A graduate of McMaster University, Frank qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1982. Frank has served in many capacities within the firm including as a member of the KPMG Board of Directors from 1999-2002. Frank has been very active in the community service arena in Hamilton, Kelowna, BC and in Waterloo.
