Federal and Provincial Funding News

The Governments of Canada and the Province of Ontario support Waterloo Region through funding for infrastructure, job creation, R&D, post-secondary excellence and much more. Both levels of governments have both recognized Waterloo Region as a significant economic engine within Ontario and Canada. A compelling model of economic transformation, Waterloo Region has re-invented itself continuously over the past 150 years. To quote University of Waterloo president David Johnston, “Our old-industry to-new-industry transition is ‘grain to brain’." From producing tires and textiles, beer and buttons, our companies have evolved to producing BlackBerries and satellite hardware that ensure the products of our skilled workers are used around the world and beyond.

At the same time, we urgently need to continue to create new opportunities. Our industry sectors, while diverse and innovative, are reeling from changes in the manufacturing sector and the global economy. The region is therefore uniquely positioned to both very much need government funding initiatives, and be able to use this support effectively to create real economic change.

See below for media releases/coverage on federal and provincial government funding initiatives that will help shape Waterloo Region’s future competitiveness and prosperity.
