Waterloo Region Can Lead and Benefit with Wind Energy Development

Worldwide wind energy production capacity has increased at an average annual rate of 25% over the past ten years according to the Canadian Wind Energy Association. With this rapid success in growth, Waterloo Region has the capacity, talent and opportunity to develop on wind energy successes and acquire the economic rewards that are available.
The total global installed wind energy production capacity at the close of 2009 was 157,899 MW, which is an increase of 37,466 MW from the previous year. The United States and China led growth in the wind market growing 40% and 100% in 2009 respectively. [Read More]

Investment Opportunities – Waterloo Region – Opening the doors to France and Zambia

On Monday April 26, the High Commissioner of the Republic of Zambia in Canada (Dr. Nevers Mumba) visited Waterloo.
The High Commissioner came to the area looking for opportunities to build stronger linkages with Canada and Waterloo Region through University of Waterloo.
A proposed mission to Zambia for Waterloo Region - August 11- 22, 2010 with Dr. Jennifer Schulenburg, UW
Zambia is the only African company that has a cell phone manufacturing plant.
The University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada will facilitate the construction of the first auto-disable safety syringe factory in Zambia at a cost of US$12.2 million over a period of 3 years. The initiative is the result of negotiations spanning several months that culminated in the announcement of an agreement by Zambia’s High Commissioner to Canada Dr. Nevers Mumba on the occasion of his visit to the University of Waterloo on April 25-27, 2010.
In public sessions held at the University of Waterloo main campus and in the City Hall in nearby Stratford, site of the University’s new global business campus, Dr. Mumba addressed gatherings of university faculty and staff, local dignitaries, including the Mayor of Stratford and the Mayor of Waterloo, and area business leaders.
Also on April 26, We hosted the University of Bordeaux 1 to discuss opportunities for collaboration with the Region Aquitaine, France.
The delegates visited UW to explore collaboration in computer science, nanotechnology, and materials science.
