Since it’s inception over 30 years ago, Melloul-Blamey has been responsible for the construction of institutional, recreational, commercial and industrial projects numbering in the hundreds. We’ve completed over 800 projects and the company has now become a billion-dollar builder.
What started out as a friendship in college has evolved into one of the most successful General Contractors in Canada’s Technology Triangle. Classmates from Conestoga College, Melloul and Blamey took a leap of faith - leaving their employer and launching Melloul–Blamey Construction in Kitchener, Ontario.
Melloul–Blamey has maintained its cutting edge level of achievement by consistently adapting as necessary in the field. Over time they have applied experiences in the public (fixed price market) to suit the evolving and expanding modern building format of Construction Management. In addition, a team of the Canadian staff expanded to open an office in the United States in 2000. One thing is for certain, the company has recognized the value of being prepared for the future and not being afraid of it. With an innovative succession plan, they are able to move forward without hinderance.
When one considers the details a construction company must be aware of, most often safety comes to mind. For Melloul-Blamey Construction, their Safety Policy Statement is that they shall be “committed to preventing Workplace violence and to maintain a safe work environment for all Employees. Every reasonable effort will be made to ensure that the Health & Safety of all our Employees are protected from injury and occupational disease.“ They are strong believers that this total commitment to Health & Safety must form an integral part of the daily lives of all staff.
Perhaps one of the key components that has kept the company at the top of it’s game for so long is its exceptional service to clients. They offer integrated building solutions that deliver projects on–time, on–budget, and always work to exceed the customers’ expectations. Through innovative partnerships they are able to create a uniquely competitive advantages for their clients.
Melloul-Blamey is known for honesty, integrity, and pride of workmanship – “our word is your guarantee”.
In 2010, Melloul-Blamey Constructon was recognized with the Business Excellence Awards for outstanding construction projects by GVCA (Grand Valley Construction Association) members. This award recognizes team work, and how it takes a team to create a better building – a team of contractors, subs, suppliers and manufacturers and consultants who provide their knowledge, expertise and professionalism at every step of the way to ensure success.
Some additional highlights include being recognized for Excellence in the MHBC Planning Consultants corporate headquarters. The building combines “unique” design elements that make “bold and adventurous” use of clay brick, galvanized siding and glazed curtainwall.
Also, Melloul-Blamey was recognized for Excellence for the project “A Grander View“, the headquarters of Enermodal Engineering Ltd., Canada’s largest green building consulting firm. Considered a showcase for the ultimate in environmental design and energy efficiency, the triple LEED Platinum building uses 82 per cent less energy than a conventional office building. It is Canada’s most energy efficient office. Native trees and plants prevent hillside erosion at Enermodal Engineering Ltd.’s Kitchener headquarters. The LEED Platinum project won an environmental achievement award from the Grand Valley Construction Association.
Why Waterloo Region?
“We chose to locate our offices in Waterloo Region because it is an area leading the way in innovation, inclusion and diversity. We also wanted to become a corporate citizen in the city we called home after immigrating to Canada. The area offers a great supply of talented graduates from both Universities and Conestoga College. The quality of living certainly appeals to students who came here to go to school, but end up staying to start the next phase of their lives. We have no difficulty at all promoting the area to prospective clients and staff members. We have safe streets, clean air, fresh water, abundant food, and all the conveniences of the city, with the comforts of the country.“ - Bernard Melloul, President
